Database Repository Introduction

Topic updated 7-6-2007

The Database Repository is an essential part of GenWise Studio, as all GenWise projects are based on Database Repositories either directly or indirectly. The Database Repository stores metadata about database schemas, this can be Imported, inspected, edited and enriched. Database Repositories can be opened and saved from the GenWise Studio File menu.

Datastores are the toplevel items in the Database Repository hierarchy. By adding Datastores you can create Database Repositories with multiple Datastores. In most common scenarios each Datastore in a Database Repository will be connected to a different database, but different Datastores connected to the same database are also a possibility.

The Database Repository Window gives a list of all Datastore Entities belonging to all Datastores in the Database Repository. The Project Explorer can be used to access designers for all Datastore items, including Tables, Views, Custom Views, Columns, Calculated Columns, Keys and Relations.

The Mass Column Editor lets you set all table/view column labels and headers quickly, for use in GenWise projects.
