Datastore Diagram

Topic updated 12-6-2007

The Datastore Diagram presents an entity diagram from a Datastore. The first diagram created for a Datastore is saved together with the Database Repository (including changes made to it). Subsequent Datastore Diagrams can be created, saved and opened using the Open and Save buttons.

The first time you open the Datastore Diagram for a Datastore, it presents a dialog to choose entities to be included in the diagram. This dialog can be reopened later by clicking the Select Tables & Views button. After a selection has been made, the diagram will automatically position the entities, trying to give them a sensible layout to start with. Changes to the diagram are only saved if you confirm this when you close the diagram window.

Working with the Datastore from the Datastore Diagram

The Datastore Diagram acts like an alternative to the Datastore Designer. Many of the tasks that you can perform from the Datastore Designer and from the Project Explorer can also be performed from the Datastore Diagram. Working from the diagram you can add, edit and delete Tables, Views, Columns, Keys, Relations, etc. and you can open the Mass Column Editor, Browse Data, SQL Scripts, etc.

A context menu for tasks related to the Datastore can be opened by clicking the diagram background. Datastore Entities can be right-clicked in the diagram to access their context menus.
