Products used by GenWise

GenWise uses several free additional products. In the most common scenarios these products are installed during the setup of GenWise. For your information we list these products below, together with some links to the websites of the makers of these products.

Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0

GenWise uses the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, which is a free add-on that is available for all recent versions of the Microsoft Windows Operating System.

The GenWise installer will install the redistributable package if the .NET Framework 2.0 is not detected. If you are a developer you may want to install the complete .NET Framework 2.0 SDK before installing GenWise. The SDK is available from the Microsoft website:

Notes about .NET Framework versions
 
Use of BETA versions of the .NET Framework 2.0 is not supported by GenWise Studio.
 
Earlier versions of the .NET Framework such as version 1.1 or 1.0 operate side by side with version 2.0. No conflict issues are known when running GenWise Studio on a PC that has both version 2.0 and an earlier version of the .NET Framework.

NUnit

GenWise uses NUnit as its unit-testing framework, both for the BO-Layer and for the ASP.NET UI.

If you prefer, you can install NHibernate manually.

NHibernate should preferably be extracted into the location C:\Program Files\NHibernate. If you install NHibernate in a different location you have to change the settings in the options of GenWise after installing.

If you have a non-English version of Microsoft Windows use the name of your localized program files directory. For example, when using a Norwegian version of Windows install NHibernate in: C:\Program Filer\NHibernate .

Products used by the ASP.NET Templates

ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions 1.0

This is Microsoft's implementation of AJAX (Asynchronous Javascript And XML). This extension to ASP.NET 2.0 is required if you want to use the Ajax Extension Template. It is not included in the GenWise setup for the ASP.NET 2.0 Templates. The ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions 1.0 can be downloaded from Microsoft's ASP.NET AJAX website:

GMDatePicker

The GMDatePicker is a well designed, free date picker control developed for ASP.NET 2.0 by GrayMatterSoft (www.graymattersoft.com). It is installed automatically with the ASP.NET 2.0 Templates.

The GMDatePicker may not work with Internet Explorer 6 or older versions. No problems are known with recent versions of Firefox, Internet Explorer, Netscape and Opera. The Troubleshooting section of the ASP.NET 2.0 Templates contains the Date popup doesn't work topic describing workarounds that you can use if you need to support Internet Explorer 6 users that encounter this problem.
