Soraban: Collect Client Tax Data Sooner
Discover how Soraban automates client data collection and delivery for tax preparers, saving time and reducing admin work during tax season.

When a tax return is waiting, the problem is often outside the preparation software: missing documents, unanswered questions or a delivery handoff that nobody owns. Soraban addresses client intake, document processing and return delivery alongside the firm's existing systems.
Choose a pilot window based on actual capacity and deadlines, not an assumption that extension season is quiet. Test a representative client group before expanding. The goal is a clearer handoff and less avoidable follow-up; adoption speed and savings depend on the firm's starting point.
"Soraban allowed me to save time in the tax preparation process... making it incredibly convenient for both me and my clients." – Jackson Pace CPA: George, UT
Overview
Soraban is a tax-workflow platform, not a replacement for professional tax judgment or every function in practice management. Its current product navigation distinguishes Collect for intake, Prepare for workpapers, Connect for extraction into supported tax software, and Deliver for return signatures and payment. Verify the required module and supported return workflow in your proposal. Source: Soraban, reviewed September 7, 2026.
How Soraban Can Help
With tax season comes numerous stressful challenges. As an accountant, you've probably experienced the following issues in your firm:
- Data collection issues: Collecting forms, information, and documents from clients can be time-consuming, repetitive, and draining on employees.
- Manual data entry: Filling out tax returns with data from previous years often requires manual input and review.
- Updating clients: Keeping clients updated on the status of their returns is necessary, but labor-intensive. Especially around tax season, team members may be overworked and have issues staying on top of client communications.
- Checklists: There's nothing worse than starting a client's tax return and realizing they've provided inadequate information. This can lead to processing delays and back-and-forth communications with clients.
- Human errors: Manual data entry is prone to errors and can slow down your workflow and processing times.
Automation can reduce repeated requests and data entry, but it cannot guarantee complete client information or eliminate errors. Assign someone to review exceptions, confirm completeness and release the work to preparation. Measure request age, follow-up volume and rework before making capacity commitments.
Define the outcomes you want to test:
- Client response: can clients understand what is missing and complete the request without a staff explanation?
- Preparation readiness: does a named reviewer confirm completeness before the return reaches a preparer?
- Consistent communication: are reminders coordinated with your existing practice-management messages?
- Exception ownership: does the team know who handles a partial upload, changed contact or failed extraction?
- Review effort: how much time is spent correcting or confirming processed information?
- Delivery completion: can the firm confirm the required signatures, payments and next steps rather than assuming that sending a return finishes the engagement?
"This product has truly been a game-changer for our workflow... and the flexibility it offers, whether it's guiding users step-by-step or providing options for different preferences, is invaluable." – Schanel & Associates: Jupiter, FL
Key Features Of Soraban
Use the product stages to define an implementation scope, then test the relevant capabilities in your own environment:
- Collect: specify questionnaires, document requirements, reminder ownership and the client experience.
- Prepare: define the workpaper output and how the reviewer checks it against source documents.
- Connect: confirm which fields, forms, tax years and software versions are supported, plus how incomplete or rejected data is handled.
- Deliver: agree on the final package, signer requirements, payment workflow and completion evidence.
Integration availability is not the same as a complete workflow
Soraban's current integration page lists UltraTax CS, CCH Axcess, Lacerte and Drake Tax, and labels ProConnect Tax SOON. Do not plan on a released ProConnect extraction integration based on this article's previous wording. It also lists Karbon, SharePoint, Rightworks and Zapier, with API options mentioned.
Confirm the exact data direction, trigger, authentication, required subscription and exception handling. A compatibility listing does not prove that every document, status or payment synchronizes automatically. See our Karbon + Soraban implementation page for the operational boundary between collection and practice management.
"This year, we handled more tax returns than before... Soraban is straightforward and not overcomplicated - exactly what we needed." – Vine Financial Partners: Austin, TX
How To Start Using Soraban
Note: Before implementing Soraban with your entire client list, test the software with some beta clients and ask them for feedback. When you're ready to implement Soraban across your entire firm, here's what you need to do:
- Initial Setup: Import and set up your client list, including the prior year's tax data for all of your clients.
- Configuration: Tag clients for categorization, create questionnaires, and customize your Soraban portal to match your branding perfectly.
- Workflow Integrations: configure only verified, supported connections; assign a system of record and test each handoff with approved test data.
- Refine & Define: Adjust Soraban's functionality to fit the needs of your firm and clients. It's important to constantly refine and improve the setup, especially when regulatory requirements are constantly updated.
- Internal Adoption: Host a company training workshop and weekly Soraban meetings to ensure your employees are comfortable using the new system.
- External Adoption: Prepare an email campaign to inform your clients about your new Soraban system, how it works, and how it will improve their annual tax process.
- Supporting Adoption: To maximize firm-wide use and success with Soraban, continue communicating with and supporting your team and clients.
Conclusion
Soraban is worth evaluating when client collection and delivery are meaningful operational bottlenecks. It may not be the first change to make if the real problem is unclear engagement scope, reviewer capacity or an inconsistent process. Genwise starts with a data-driven assessment, then connects workflow design, configuration, testing, adoption and optimization.
