Implement Canopy around the way your firm should operate.

Genwise brings a COO + CTO perspective to your Canopy implementation, connecting your people, processes, and technology. We build the engagements, workflows, questionnaires, document structures, integrations, and reporting your firm needs, then work with your team to adopt and improve them.

A template is only useful when it fits the work.

We connect your service scope to the tasks, requests, ownership, and review steps that deliver it—and help your team use the system day to day.

    1. 01

      Agreed services

Define the service scope and responsibilities.

    2. 02

      Engagements

Set out terms, signatures, and billing arrangements.

    3. 03

      Onboarding and intake

Request the information and documents the work needs.

    4. 04

      Delivery tasks

Assign work, deadlines, dependencies, and review steps.

    5. 05

      Review, signatures, and billing

Confirm the work and complete the agreed handoffs.

    6. 06

      Reporting and refinement

See what is moving, resolve friction, and improve.

These are connected operating steps, not a promise that every handoff is automatic. We define the manual responsibilities and test supported automations with your team.

Configure the platform and the operating system around it.

Your firm's priorities shape the scope. We design the pieces together, document the decisions, and validate the setup before the team relies on it.

    Engagements and service delivery

Connect what the client agrees to with the work your team delivers.

    • Engagement templates, service items, and packages
    • Firm-approved terms, e-sign templates, and billing handoffs
    • Agreed service scope connected to task templates

    Tasks and workflow

Make ownership, deadlines, and review steps part of the system.

    • Task and subtask templates for recurring accounting and tax workflows
    • Ownership roles, dependencies, deadlines, task tags, and statuses
    • Review steps, reminders, and controlled automation

    Questionnaires and client communication

Give clients a clear path from the first request to complete information.

    • Prospect, onboarding, tax, and recurring questionnaires with conditional logic
    • Document checklist templates and client requests
    • Email templates, portal instructions, and a defined follow-up cadence

    Client data and usable views

Give each person a practical view of the clients and work they own.

    • Client and contact cleanup, relationships, and migration preparation
    • Custom fields, client tags, and permissions
    • Customized client and contact views, plus role-specific task and subtask views

    Documents and desktop setup

Organize files around how the firm collects, prepares, and delivers work.

    • Folder templates, year structures, and naming standards
    • Client-visible and internal documents, migration coordination, and reconciliation
    • Virtual Drive setup on compatible Windows devices and file-access training

    Insights and ongoing improvement

Start with the decisions leadership needs to make, then build useful visibility.

    • Eligible reports and dashboards for workload, time, billing, service items, and collections
    • Source-data validation and guidance on interpreting reports
    • Team training and refinements based on actual use

Connect the right data. Validate what moves.

An integration is more than a connection screen. We review client identities, service items, permissions, mappings, and source-data quality before an approved migration or sync.

The plan includes sync previews where supported, exception handling, and reconciliation checks. Import options and retained history are confirmed against the systems involved—not assumed.

    Your firm's QuickBooks Online connection

Configure the supported client, service-item, and billing workflows between Canopy and your firm's QBO account. Confirm sync direction by record type, preview mappings, and resolve exceptions before relying on the connection.

Your clients' ledgers and close work

Close Automation is a separate workstream for client-ledger monitoring and close-related work. We confirm eligible connections, access, responsibilities, and review steps rather than treat it as an extension of the firm's billing sync.

Pilot the workflow before expanding it.

We help you evaluate and implement Canopy's Close Automation and Tax Workflow Automation where they fit your firm. Availability, integrations, licensing, and supported workflows are confirmed before rollout, with your team retaining responsibility for review and approval.

    Close Automation

Start with the close process: ledger readiness, supported connections, ownership, review criteria, and exceptions. Configure a controlled pilot, validate what the team sees, and refine the work before a wider rollout.

    Tax Workflow Automation

Connect intake, document collection, preparation handoffs, and review around supported capabilities. Confirm tenant access, tax-software compatibility, return types, and any separate partner subscriptions before committing to activation.

    Measure twice. Then implement.

Start with an Efficiency Assessment to understand the bottlenecks, data, roles, and workflows that should shape your Canopy setup.

    1. 01

      Assess the firm

Map services, workflows, roles, client experience, data, and the current technology stack. Establish priorities before configuration begins.

    2. 02

      Design the operating model

Define the future workflow, configuration, ownership, migration, training, and rollout plan. Document the decisions and handoffs.

    3. 03

      Configure and validate

Build templates, fields, roles, automations, and views. Test representative scenarios and exceptions with the people doing the work.

    4. 04

      Adopt and improve

Prepare role-specific guidance, support the agreed rollout, review real usage, and retest refinements to templates and automations.

Implementation is the first phase. Adoption follows.

The Genwise cohort is an annual contract: 3 months of implementation with weekly work sessions and a weekly email covering the recap, next agenda, and action items for your firm and Genwise. Your team can follow progress in the Genwise app, use the interactive process canvas, and refer to unified software documentation.

The following 9 months of adoption and optimization provide a dedicated support email for refinements to the solutions implemented—from task templates and questionnaires to engagements and automations. We help staff use the setup, review friction, and retest changes. Additional projects are scoped separately.

    Before

A platform that does not yet match the firm.

Service scope and task templates are disconnected. Requests get missed. Views are cluttered, ownership is unclear, and folders vary by employee. The team falls back to email, spreadsheets, and memory.

A controlled system the team understands.

Agreed services connect to the right tasks and requests. Ownership and review are explicit. Role-specific views and consistent folders help staff find the work. The setup is documented, tested, and refined through real usage.

    Canopy implementation questions, answered.

Yes. Genwise supports new implementations and optimization of existing setups. We review what is already in place, identify friction, and agree on priorities before changing templates, data, or workflows. An Efficiency Assessment is the recommended starting point.

We plan the source inventory, cleanup, client and contact mapping, permissions, and document structure with your firm. The migration scope includes agreed validation and reconciliation checks. Transfer methods and the history that can be retained depend on the source system and Canopy's supported import options; we confirm those before moving data.

The firm's Canopy-to-QuickBooks Online integration supports client, service-item, and billing workflows, with sync direction and behavior varying by record type. Close Automation connects a client's ledger for close-related work. We scope these separately, confirm supported connections, and validate mappings and exceptions rather than assume every field syncs both ways.

We help assess fit, prepare the workflow and data, configure supported features, and run controlled pilots. Tenant access, licensing, supported integrations, tax software, and return types must be confirmed first. Some capabilities, including partner tax-preparation services, may require separate subscriptions. Your firm retains responsibility for professional review and approval.

No. We confirm what Canopy supports in your setup and make sending and follow-up responsibilities explicit. Where a supported, approved trigger fits, we configure and test it. Where it does not, the workflow includes a manual checklist step so the request is not left to assumption.

No. Virtual Drive setup is for compatible Windows devices; it is not a Mac, tablet, or mobile drive. We confirm current system requirements, including processor compatibility, before setup and train staff on file access and synchronization. Browser access and desktop drive support are different capabilities.

Genwise documents the workflows, helps staff use role-specific views, and supports adoption and refinements within the agreed scope. The cohort option is an annual contract: 3 months of implementation with weekly work sessions and recap emails, followed by 9 months of adoption and optimization support for the solutions implemented. Additional projects are scoped separately.
