eMoney vs RightCapital for Accounting Firms
Compare eMoney and RightCapital by planning workflow, input validation, advisor review, implementation cost and team adoption.

Financial planning becomes a repeatable service only when the team has a defined scope, reliable inputs and a process for maintaining the plan. eMoney and RightCapital should be evaluated against that operating model, not broad promises that one is always easier or more comprehensive.

Define the service you intend to deliver
Decide whether the firm is providing a limited tax-planning engagement, a coordinated household financial plan or support to a separately authorized advisory team. Identify who is qualified and responsible for recommendations.
A projection is not a filed return. Keep assumptions, actual balances, source dates and professional review visible. Do not extend the firm's service scope simply because software can model another scenario.
eMoney: test the planning and review process
eMoney's CoPlanner describes evaluating client data to surface planning strategies for an advisor to review and select. Treat that as decision support rather than an autonomous recommendation.
Bring a representative household and ask the vendor to show the inputs, alternatives, assumptions and final report. If trusts, equity compensation or business ownership matter, demonstrate those exact cases rather than relying on a “complex planning” label.
Confirm how changes are tracked, how another advisor reviews the plan and what a client can see. A sophisticated model still needs a maintainable annual update process.
RightCapital: test tax-related planning in context
RightCapital presents financial planning with tax-related capabilities including Roth conversion modeling, tax-efficient withdrawals, asset location and Tax Analyzer.
Evaluate the import process using an approved sample. Reconcile imported values against the original return and confirm what requires manual entry. Document import is not the same as live synchronization with tax preparation or general-ledger software.
Have the intended staff member explain a scenario and its assumptions to a reviewer. Attractive visuals are useful only if the underlying plan is correct and understandable.
Use the same sample plan
| Test | What the reviewer should verify |
|---|---|
| Inputs | Source date, household members, accounts and missing information |
| Assumptions | Rates, timing, tax treatment and scenario differences |
| Changes | Revised inputs flow through the relevant outputs |
| Client view | Sensitive information and recommendations are appropriately presented |
| Export | Required reports and supporting assumptions remain available |
Include a changed retirement date, an unexpected expense and an incomplete account balance. Check whether the system makes uncertainty visible rather than filling it with an unnoticed default.
Compare implementation and total cost
Obtain current proposals for advisor and assistant access, planning modules, integrations, support, training and contractual term. The earlier estimates, learning-time claims and universal price advantage are not retained as verified facts.
Ask for the exact data exchange needed by your firm. A relationship with an advisor-technology provider does not imply a native connection to your accounting platform.
Request current security, retention, data-processing and access-control documentation. Neither platform is automatically approved for every type of sensitive data your clients hold.
Build the adoption model
Assign an owner for collecting inputs, a preparer for the plan, a qualified reviewer and a person responsible for client follow-up. Define when plans are refreshed and how changed assumptions are communicated.
Pilot with a manageable service offering before expanding. Measure time spent correcting inputs and following up on decisions, not just the speed of producing a report.
